Abinav Sridharan

    Abinav Sridharan is a voice trainer and a traditionally trained performer of Indian and Western Classical Operatic music. Being an ethnomusicologist researcher alongside an avid performer, he collaborates with artistes from various cultural backgrounds to explore and create new forms of art. He is also the founder of Opera India, a pioneering venture that aims to propagate Classical music by musically and lyrically juxtaposing Opera and Indian Classical music forms to create an engaging and stimulating performance to the audience from all around the world.

Abinav has been featured in numerous Indian and international TV and Radio channels, notably, The Oprah Winfrey Show, where he has performed as a lead singer for the KM Sufi Ensemble, and featured in interviews and concerts conducted by the BBC Network, London. While working with the KM Chamber Choir, Abinav has performed around India and Germany and has been featured as a soloist in numerous concert venues. During his studies in the UK, Abinav has performed for various organizations throughout the country, such as the WaterAid Foundation and Magdala Opera Company, where he has sung with renowned singers from the La Scala Opera House. His composition had also been broadcast on the BBC Asian Network, London. Recently, he presented a TEDx talk/performance on Opera and Indian Classical music at Delhi University. 

Recognized by Middlesex University for merit, he was the first awardee of the prestigious ‘A.R. Rahman Scholarship.’ While working as a faculty at KM Music Conservatory for over 5 years, Abinav has taught Hindustani Classical and Western Classical vocal performance for over 200 students at the institution. He has also formed and headed a new course at the Conservatory (for students of age 12-50), which merged Indian Classical music and Western Classical voice production techniques, to develop an effective performance strategy for singers. Some of his students are presently award-winning playback singers in the Indian cine-music industry. Having completed his Masters in Ethnomusicology from King's College, London, he presently works on researching different cultures and musical forms to create new learning methodologies for singers from various parts of India.
